Professional Women in Construction

PWC is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1980 to support, advance, and connect women and promote diversity in the architecture, engineering, construction, and related fields. Fourteen industry leaders in Chicago came together in 2021 to extend that mission to the first midwestern chapter. Our vision is implemented by actively engaging our members in career development, hosting events that facilitate connection and foster open conversation, and providing leadership opportunities on member-driven committees. We welcome all genders in our membership - together we can do more to support women in our industry!

We support, advance, and connect women and promote diversity within the architecture, engineering, construction and related industries.

How the PWC Chicago Network Strengthens Women and the Industry

Blog Post, April 2026

When Ann Schuessler, a member of PWC Chicago’s Mentorship & Education Committee and a leader at Assembly Built, talks about the future of construction in Chicago, she doesn’t just talk about jobs. She talks about networks.

After learning about the manufacturing sector, Ann found herself reflecting on Chicago’s own industrial history. This city once operated as a deeply integrated network of makers, builders, engineers, and tradespeople. Over time, much of that connective tissue has thinned.

Her question became: What would it take to intentionally rebuild that network — and ensure women are deeply embedded in it at every level?

Through PWC Chicago, she’s helping answer that question.
